2019 is the Best Year Yet to Have a Fitness Business

2019 is the best year to be in the fitness industry – period. The good news…it’s only going to get better.

At the end of this article, you’re going to be reminded of one of the biggest technological advances coming our way (hint: the internet is going to get faster). It’s our job to ensure we utilize it to our benefit.

But before we go into that, let’s go through some of the reasons why it is a great time to be in the fitness sector.

  1. Awareness

More and more people are becoming aware of the importance that health and fitness plays in someone’s life. People are more in-tune with the need for fitness to accomplish their life goals and lead a more prosperous life.

Why am I so sure?

Well, every year there is more than 15% increase in people searching for fitness related terms on search engines like Google.

Analyze 1000’s of terms across what people are searching for on Google and it’s clear, more and more people are searching for fitness related terms.

There is a follow up video where we will talk about how fitness businesses can grow their client base but for this video we are just looking at exactly why demand just going to grow for this $90 billion industry

  2. Improving Mental Health

We, as humans are chemically wired to feel joy from exercise.

When you exercise, our body releases chemicals called endorphins. These endorphins react with receptors in the brain which help reduce the perception of pain.

Why is this good for the fitness world?

The medical world knows that prevention is better than a cure.

Now doctors are prescribing exercise more and more. About 2 years ago, I went in to the doctors – I was told I had high blood pressure. The very first question I was asked by a doctor, who had been practicing for 15 years: ‘How much do you exercise?’

Now with a link between exercise and mental health, along with the increasing amount of famous cases of depression coming to the fore – institutes are leveraging the expertise of fitness experts.

The medical sector are realizing that fitness is a hugely important into eradicating a large proportion of illnesses, so they are just going to ramp up prescribing fitness.

Few examples of famous cases:

Jim Carrey – was prescribed Prozac but credited a better healthier lifestyle for improving his condition.

Demi Lovato  – used exercise to deal with anxiety issues – it was keeping a good exercise routine.

Now, whatever we think of the Kardashians, they do put a lot of opinions out there. Khloe Kardashian came out in a magazine saying that the gym is the place that takes away so much of her stress and is her go to place when she feels down.

3. Lack of physical activity in general

Now, we have been all positive so far.

It’s not all good news… (unless you are in the health and fitness sector)

Less than a quarter of Americans are meeting the required physical activity, this according to a recent report out by Disease Control and Prevention’s National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS).

With heart disease being biggest cause of young adults, according to the CDC government institutes attention is going to keep on rising on ways to prevent.

A very recent report conducted by the Department of Health and Human Services reiterated that only a 1/3 of the population get anywhere near the recommended exercise amount, on very loose numbers.

But interestingly, they have called on employers, the medical care industry, your sports leaders and technology companies to help people get more active.

Expect more employers incorporating health plans and rewards for their staff to get into shape, more federal assistance and fitness experts to have much more of a say in people’s well-being.

Employee wellness programs are going to be on the rise. Companies are understanding that an active employee is a healthy one so fitness is a benefit that more and more companies are deploying than ever before.

4. Technology advances means we can grow

Getting Clients:

We are now living in the digital age.  The best age for aspiring businesses.

The biggest hurdle for all types of businesses is getting customers. That has now been made so easy, all down to the wonderful invention since the wheel, the internet.

We can use the internet to get extremely targeted in customer acquisition and expand any business. The next video will all be about how we can use technology to get those clients, but technology is only going to get better. Making it easier for you to become though leaders in the space – as long as you really, truly love what you do.

For reaching customers, now is the best time. Although the fitness sector does not do a great job of getting a cohesive message out, but more on that further down the road.

Saving Time:

There are long hours in the fitness sector – more and more gyms are turning into 24-hour facilities. Some clients need training in the morning – some midday then some late at night, each with their own requirements.

Now we have numerous ways to save time – we have online calendars , we have smart phones in our pockets, and with 5G just around the corner our phones are going to get even better. Use technology to wow your customers.

There are companies like peloton coming out, but 9 out of 10 people we have talked to: prefer a human connection rather than training by themselves. As long as fitness businesses have a steady flow of communication fitness businesses are just going to excel.

5G (this is something we should really be excited about):

5G is the 5th generation of mobile communication and is a huge breakthrough. The way devices connect to the internet is going to change forever.

It’s going to be 100-250 times faster than our speeds at the moment.

Businesses can communicate with clients on the go, using any device from anywhere. Most big chains gyms have complimentary wi-fi, which is provided users to access the internet for Apps (Spotify, YouTube, MyFitnessPal etc.) but how many issues do clients have logging onto their devices within a gym facility.

5G will allow users to stream rich media, like websites in a click of a few buttons.

Reliability will also be a huge plus but for the fitness industry, as the speed in which data passes through devices is going to increase. So fitness businesses will be able to reach more people and be a lot more productive.
